Dancing His Way to Broadway: A Chance Encounter in Dingle

The Dingle Pub ad board celebrating David Geaney

My sister-in-law, Frances, and I were in Dingle and, like everyone else in Dingle, felt almost drawn to The Dingle Pub. It was a very busy night there. And about a half hour into the evening’s music, a young man came out from behind the bar, threw down a three foot square of plywood and jumped into action. David Geaney’s folks own that pub. David works there when he’s in town. And he always treats the crowd to his dancing. You see, he is also a World Champion Irish Dancer.

Talk about fast feet! And talk about showmanship! He was a semi-finalist in Britain’s Got Talent in 2017. And he was an amazing surprise the night we stopped in to his father’s pub.

I chatted with him after his dancing and set up an interview with him the very next day to learn his story…his path and his hopes and his dreams.

Since then, his career has led him to performances on Broadway, and on cruise ships, and everywhere else he gets the chance.

I swear, serendipity is the key when you’re traveling. I love it when the unexpected just jumps out from behind the bar and blows everyone away!!!

Some of the best travel experiences happen when you least expect them. Have you ever stumbled upon an unforgettable performer, musician, or local experience while traveling? I'd love to hear your story. Send me an email.
