Rehearsal at University College Dublin

The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin are known in Ireland, have become a huge hit on the internet and are amazing to hear in person. While every one of the members has an obvious love of music and harmonies, most of them are scholars in areas of study, other than music.

“Most of the members are chemical engineers, or in computer science, economics, politics and philosophy. We only have maybe three actual music majors in the mix,” says visiting artistic director Mark Chambers.

Every voice counts

Desmond Earley is the mastermind who built the sound of the Choral Scholars over the past 23 years. He has stuck to his dream and it has become a reality. This group, shows that fine voices can come from anywhere and it’s ‘the blend’ of the talent that makes the magic. He was away the day I visited the campus and heard the group.

Scholars come from all programs, they just need to be able to sing to get in.

And the harmonies fueled chills for the two hours I was there.
