The Matchmaker Bar

For more than 50 years the village of Lisdoonvarna in County Clare, has hosted the annual Matchmaking Festival. It runs the month of September and it packs the town with tourists.

The Matchmaker Bar

Willie Daly is the resident matchmaker and he’s s third generation expert. He works from an big leather book…in the foyer of the Matchmaker’s Pub in the middle of town.

Willie Daly, signing folks up.

After assessing what you are looking for, what you bring to the tabled and collecting a registration fee, he throws you into the mix. He walks around the bar, matching this one with that one…the one over there with the guy at the table and any other matches he sees. And he asks the couples to dance.

Hopeful singles at the Matchmaker Bar.

It may not be very scientific, but the more people drink, the less inhibited they are to take part.

I know it’s not September, but since it is Valentine’s day…I thought I’d giv e you a chance to experience the festival yourself, by listening to this podcast.

Oh, and here’s a picure of the spider webs. (That will make sense after you listen to the podcast)

Early morning spider webs, in Lisdoonvarna.

Enjoy!
